If you live in a tropical environment, you probably already know the very real threat of a hurricane coming along any year, ready to wreak havoc on the surrounding area. Hurricanes are nothing to mess around with, and while you know you should evacuate when you know a hurricane is on the way, you probably also want to do everything you can to protect your home in the event that a hurricane shows up.
What Can You Do?
While you should always take the safety of your family seriously when you know there is a big storm coming in, it is completely understandable to want to do everything possible to keep your home safe. After all, insurance probably won’t cover everything, and there are things you can do to work on defending your home before the storm ever makes landfall.
Here are some easy steps any homeowner can take when they know a hurricane is on the way.
· Board up windows: To make sure your windows don’t get busted out in the storm covering your home in water and glass, you can use wood to board up your windows.
· Wind abatement screens: While there are some that could point out a downside of window abatement screens, if you can find one that fits your home and is able to be easily put into place, you could be thankful later on when you find your home relatively untouched by wind damage.
· Take essentials with you: Take some of the most essential things with you when you evacuate, such as your laptop and anything else you think you might need. This way, all of your essential items will be nearby and accounted for.
While protecting your home is probably a huge priority for you, you should always consider your own personal safety and that of your family first. While you can easily replace material stuff, you can’t replace your own life or those of your family, so always make sure you put safety first when thinking about how you are going to deal with an approaching hurricane.
